Iaquinta dismisses Roma rumours

AD 1 7/16/2008

Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta has laughed off “the same old rumours” linking him with Roma.

The 28-year-old joined the Old Lady from Udinese last summer but was frustrated by his lack of playing time in Turin last season.

With Amauri arriving to add to the competition for places, there have been regular whispers that Iaquinta will look for a fresh start with a Roma side in need of an out-and-out hitman, but the towering Calabrian is going nowhere.

“I am happy to stay here and I am just thinking about Juve,” he told Rai Sport.

“It seems to me that these links with Roma are just the same old rumours and I don’t take them seriously.

“We have four strikers, five if you include Sebastian Giovinco, and we will all have to play hard if we want to get a starting shirt.

“But the positive side to that is that we are move competitive than last year’s squad and we will take on anyone.”

Iaquinta played in 24 games last term, but he started just nine times and found the net on eight occasions.
