Italy's loss is Rosetti's gain

AD 1 UEFA have confirmed that Italian referee Roberto Rosetti will take charge of Sunday’s Euro 2008 Final in Vienna.

The Turin native took charge of the opening game of the tournament and missed two handballs during Switzerland’s defeat against the Czech Republic.

Rosetti was also given the quarter-final between Turkey and Croatia, which he handled impeccably.

The 40-year-old will now take charge of the finale at the Ernst-Happel Stadion, along with assistants Alessandro Griselli and Paolo Calcagno.

A hospital manager by profession, Rosetti took charge of four games in the 2006 World Cup, but was denied a shot at the Final by the heroics of the Azzurri side.

This time around, Italy’s exit at the hands of Spain yesterday has handed Rosetti the chance to take centre stage.
